Report: West Brom among clubs keen on top-six Premier League player

|

West Brom are one of several clubs interested in a move to sign Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard, a report from The Independent has claimed.

Opportunities have been somewhat hard to come by for the England international this season, with Lingard starting just nine Premier League games for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side during the 2019/20 campaign.

Now it seems as though some clubs feel that that could open the door for a potential swoop for the 27-year-old, with the latest reports claiming that the Baggies are interested in the attacker, along with Premier League duo West Ham and Everton.

However, it appears there is no guarantee that Lingard will be making any move this summer, with the report also stating that the player is thought to be keen to stay at Old Trafford despite his recent lack of game time.

You feel therefore, that West Brom will simply have to win promotion to the Premier League this season, to have even a faint hope of pulling this deal.

Would Jesse Lingard be a good signing for West Brom?

Yes

No

It is hard to see a player like Lingard wanting to drop down to the Championship – particularly when he has Premier League interest from elsewhere – and you would also imagine West Brom themselves will need to be bringing in the sort of revenue offered by the riches of the top-flight in order to afford the attacker.

If the Baggies are able to pull this move off however, it could be a big piece of business for them.

While things haven’t quite gone his way recently, Lingard is unquestionably a talented player, and his top-flight experience could be invaluable to a newly-promoted side next season.

Add to that the high profile that he possesses, and the interest there is in him from those other clubs, and bringing Lingard to The Hawthorns would certainly be a statement of intent from West Brom, ahead of their potential return to the Premier League.
