Report: WBA willing to do ‘whatever it takes’ in search of desired solution to crisis

|

West Brom are one of many Championship sides willing to do ‘whatever it takes’ to ensure they can finish the league season amid the coronavirus crisis, even if it means playing games behind-closed-doors.

The Daily Mail report that the Baggies are determined to resume play in the Championship after the EFL announced last week that the division, as well as League One and Two, will be suspended until, at least, April 3rd following the coronavirus pandemic that has seen plenty of sporting events worldwide be put on hold or flat-out cancelled.

West Brom are one of several clubs around England to face the full weight of the virus, with the Baggies currently sitting comfortably in an automatic promotion spot in the Championship table, in a season that will likely see the Albion return to the Premier League after two years away from the English top-flight. This absence, then, could be why Slaven Bilic’s side are willing to continue the campaign at all costs.

Will the Championship season be completed?

Yes

No

League football in England will likely go well into the summer, with UEFA announcing this week via BBC Sport that EURO 2020 will be pushed back to 2021 for countries around the continent to finish their domestic obligations, and this could prove to be great news for West Brom.

This season has been a rollercoaster of emotion for West Brom supporters, and promotion has always been at the centre of this interesting campaign, and to lose out on returning to the Premier League will be a bitter blow for the club and supporters, who could be willing to see the team play behind-closed-doors if it means being one step closer to reaching the top-flight.

The EFL will have a big decision to make in how to carry out the remainder of the season, and for the Baggies, they will be hoping the campaign can resume in what could be a historic year for West Brom.
