Report: WBA icon praises “absolute bargain” who could see “loads of club queuing to get him”

|

West Brom icon Jonathan Greening has lavished the club with praise on how they constructed the deal that brought Matheus Pereira to the Hawthorns.

Speaking to The Express and Star, the Baggies favourite revealed that he believes West Brom picked up a bargain in Pereira, who this season has been one of the club’s most important players, with the Brazilian scoring six and assisting 12 in the Championship as the Albion currently sit in an automatic promotion spot in the standings.

Pereira is also close to becoming a permanent member of the West Brom squad, with the 23-year-old needing to play just one more game before activating a clause that will see the playmaker become an Albion player for good as reported by The Telegraph, and for Greening, the youngster has proven to be an incredible piece of business.

Who has scored the most Championship goals?

The former Baggies midfielder said about the Pereira deal: “It’s an absolute bargain. I’ve been back to West Brom a few times and every time he’s been one of the best players on the pitch. He can do a little bit of everything. He can take players on. He’s got a killer pass. He can get creative. He finds nice pockets of space and can score goals and set them up.”

Greening later added with: “I still speak to Chris Brunt down there and he says he’s a really nice lad and all the lads love him. But if West Brom falters and fall into the play-offs then don’t go up, there will be loads of club queuing to get him because they will only have to offer a little bit more than the £8m West Brom signed him for. It’s important for West Brom to get promoted to keep players like him happy.”

With Football Insider claiming this week that West Ham are monitoring the Brazilian star, the interest could be high in Pereira no matter the outcome of West Brom’s promotion hopes this season, yet for the sake of the Baggies and Greening, they will be hoping the 23-year-old remains at the Hawthorns for a second season whether it be in the Premier League or Championship.
