Report: WBA and Championship rivals to unite in £170m move should crisis continue to worsen

|

West Brom and Leeds United could join forces to take on the Premier League if the football season is declared null and void.

Football Insider claim that the two Championship sides could go to court in a £170m lawsuit if this season is wiped from the history books, with the Baggies and Whites currently in prime position to claim promotion to the Premier League and claim the financial benefits that come with the leap into the English top-flight.

The Championship duo are leading the pack for automatic promotion to the Premier League, however, their season, as well as for every club in the country, has come to a grinding halt, and the prospect of this campaign being declared null and void could become a reality with the EFL yet to declare what will happen.

Will West Brom be in the Premier League next season?

Yes

No

But West Brom and Leeds could be in a good position to finish off the Championship season with UEFA announcing yesterday that the 2020 EUROs will be pushed back to 2021 as reported by BBC Sport, seemingly giving clubs around Europe the time they need to finish off their league campaigns in the summer months.

Promotion from the Championship to the Premier League is often regarded as the most financially benefitting step up in world football as reported by Goal, with West Brom to benefit massively if they can return to the English top-flight with the Baggies in line to earn tens of millions in TV and broadcast rights.

With the promising news from UEFA about the EUROs postponement, the Championship season will likely be able to be completed, yet in an event of the campaign being deemed null and void, West Brom and Leeds will both have a strong case in demanding financial compensation from Premier League chiefs.
