Steve Clarke has said he’s happy for the players to decide who takes spot kicks during games.
Speaking to wba.co.uk following the penalty fortunes of Shane Long and Peter Odemwingie, the head coach said he was happy for them to work it out between themselves depending on how they feel.
‘I think everyone fancied the second penalty. Shane scored two in pre season so it was third time unlucky. You leave it to players who are confident, I saw Peter grab the ball and I was happy with that.’
Clarke also said he was happy with the reaction of the team following the penalty miss, as it would’ve been easy for them to feel downbeat, but they didn’t let it affect them.
‘The reaction to us missing the penalty was good. The players didn’t switch off, they didn’t feel sorry for themselves, and they kept attacking the game.’
