Gareth McAuley believes that Albion’s teamwork and organisation was the key to our dominance over Liverpool on the opening day of the season.

Speaking to wba.co.uk the centre half was delighted to get our first clean sheet of the season, and he was pleased to see us play well and take the points this time round, after starting brightly last season but not having the results go our way.

‘Clean sheets are hard to come by in the Premier League, this year we we wanted to get a win on the board as soon as possible. We wanted to get off to a good start as last season we were playing well but couldn’t get the results. Right from the first whistle we got about Liverpool and figured out how to stop them playing. We take a huge amount of confidence from it heading into our next game against Tottenham.’

Perfect start to be honest, can’t expect that every game, but at least if we approach teams that way, look to stifle them so we can play to our strengths, maybe improving on last season’s league finish might not be too far off the mark.
