Opinion: West Brom need to go all out in key upcoming fixture

|

West Bromwich Albion fans haven’t had loads of good memories in the FA Cup recently. The Baggies have made it as far as the quarter-finals just twice in the last 15 seasons, but with a win against Newcastle next week there will be another quarter-final appearance and the potential of getting to Wembley.

With that in mind, and the fact that the Baggies have only got to get past a turgid Newcastle team to make it into the last eight, the fans need to be pleased with how far they’ve already come and can now start taking a serious look at the FA Cup.

The only caveat is that this season we’ve got all of the Premier League’s ‘big six’ left in, and whilst Chelsea vs Liverpool means that one of them will be dumped out for the quarter-finals, it will still be huge ask for Slaven Bilic’s side to go much further.

Regardless of who is left in this season’s competition, though, there is a lot of time for West Brom to strengthen their position in the Championship to give themselves more room for rotation to really go for it in the cup, and the fans would love a trip to Wembley as a season bonus.

Only time will tell how the clash with the Magpies will go, but West Brom fans should be confident ahead of the tie. They’re playing some wonderful attacking football at the moment whilst Steve Bruce is hardly the most progressive manager out there, and they could well be set for a memorable night at The Hawthorns.

From there they’ll be just 90 minutes away from a date at Wembley, and it’s certainly something Bilic will have on his mind, even if for now the focus will be getting past the Geordies and working on their promotion bid this season.
