Opinion: This weekend could shape the title race for West Brom and others

|

West Bromwich Albion fans are in an amazing place right now. Not only are the Baggies top of the Championship and playing amazing football, but they have some incredible young players, clauses in place to bring some of their loanees in permanently and they’re facing a Christmas at the top of the league.

However, the Hawthorns faithful aren’t guaranteed to have top spot when the 25th December rolls around. They still have to get through this weekend, and this weekend could be one that shapes the title race for the rest of the season, as both West Brom and Leeds United have got massive games that they’ll be going into.

Starting with the club we all love, the Baggies will have home advantage when Brentford travel to the West Midlands, but the Bees are a formidable side and are one that will be eyeing up a spot in the top six to have a real go at the play-offs this season as they currently find themselves 4th.

Aside from that massive game when 1st meet 4th, there is another huge game in the division, as away from The Hawthorns in London, Craven Cottage will host Fulham vs Leeds United at the same time as the West Brom game is ongoing.

It will be a huge day for the Championship. Should both West Brom and Leeds win their games then they could be up to 13 points clear of 3rd place and dropping out of the automatic promotion spots. However, if the Baggies win and Leeds lose, then the gap between the two sides will be five points.

Whatever happens between the two sides, it will be a long season. However, with the Baggies looking to create a gap between themselves and Leeds, winning later today will be crucial, especially as the next huge game for West Brom after this comes against Leeds on New Year’s Day.
