Opinion: The West Brom man who will be absolutely key to Baggies’ promotion this campaign

|

The end goal this season is a clear one for all associated with West Bromwich Albion Football Club. The Baggies have got a lot of time to get there and there is a lot of football that is still to be played, but the aim is promotion back to the promised land of the Premier League.

It’s certainly an attainable goal, and if Slaven Bilic’s side can continue to play the football that they are then there really are no limits for those who fill out The Hawthorns every other week this season, although there are a few players who will be key to getting there.

The main one, and the man we’re going to be focusing on here is the incredibly talented 23-year-old Brazilian winger Matheus Pereira. The loanee has been incredible this season, and it was reported back in October than the Baggies can sign him for a fee of £8.25m permanently from Portuguese side Sporting (The Express and Star), and that’s a move they’ll have to make.

The winger has already proven to be one of the best wingers in the Championship. His numbers so far this season are incredible. In the league alone he’s already scored three times and assisted nine (Transfermarkt), despite the fact he’s not the main outlet for end product.

At the age of just 23 and at the start of his first season as a Baggie, he’s already averaging some cracking numbers. Looking at WhoScored, Pereira is managing 1.9 shot, 2.2 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per game, as well as winning 2.8 fouls per game too.

Is Matheus Pereira the best player in the Championship?

Yes

No

Should the Baggies manage to make it back to the Premier League for next season then Matheus Pereira will almost certainly be key to that. As long as he can avoid injury or a massive drop off in form then his end of season statistics should be amazing, and the fans have got the joy of watching it first hand.
