Opinion: Summer signing’s recent form is exactly what West Brom have been calling for

|

West Bromwich Albion fans have been watching on as their side have been tearing up the Championship this season. So many of the Baggies have been on top form and as a result of that, they’re top of the league and seven points into the automatic promotion places.

For that to continue and the Baggies to retain their spot at the top of England’s second-tier then they’ll need to maintain this fantastic run of form, and it looks like one man in Slaven Bilic’s squad who is hitting form at the perfect time is going to be key throughout the festive period.

After signing for the club for a fee of £4m over the summer, a large price for a Championship striker, Charlie Austin has scored three goals in his last three for West Brom since his move from Southampton (BBC), and that comes after he struggled at the start of the season.

In Austin’s first 11 games for the Baggies, he only managed a single strike, but now he’s finding his feet from the looks of things with three in his last three (Transfermarkt), and even though two of those are penalties, goals are goals and the 29-year-old will just be glad to be on the scoresheet.

Having left Southampton and the Premier League for West Brom and the Championship, getting a run of games, a load of goals and some confidence back will be key, and considering he has a two-year deal at The Hawthorns, he could yet show this same form for the Baggies in the Premier League.

Are you happy with Charlie Austin?

Yes

No

There is obviously a long way to go this season for West Brom and Austin, but this run of form is certainly something that the supporters should be delighted with and something for the 29-year-old to carry on as he looks to become a hero at The Hawthorns.
