Newcastle Now In Proper Talks For West Brom Striker But Release Fee Not Met (Yet)

|

It’s being reported today that following the previous nonsensical speculation surrounding Newcastle United’s interest in West Bromwich Albion striker Salomon Rondon, they are now in proper talks when it comes to procuring his services.

As covered previously, the other week the rumour mill had the St James’ Park outfit in for a loan spell for the 28-year-old which would avoid his relegation release fee and ultimately serve no purpose to us as he’s out of contract this time next summer.

Sky Sports reported earlier this morning that they understood talks were ongoing between both parties over a deal but despite how close the switch of Aleksandar Mitrovic is Fulham is – Newcastle have so far refused to meet the speculated £16.5million fee in his contract.

You would think though, it’s simply a matter of time and once Mitrovic is confirmed, their interest in Rondon will become concrete and at that stage, there’s little the club can do even if fans are adamant we want him to stay. It goes completely into his hands once that sum and clause gets triggered.

Sky also speculate that Newcastle might offer a straight loan swap with Dwight Gayle or a player + cash deal. Again there’s no sense in the former, but the latter might be tempting depending on what they would be willing to offer as Gayle’s productivity at this level is well known.
