West Bromwich Albion’s new assistant coach Gary Megson has said the club are aiming for five new signings before Saturday’s big kick off and Jonny Evans has said he doesn’t expect to leave the club this summer, despite interest from Leicester City.

Speaking to Sky Sports today, Megson said that although there were no guarantees we would get the signings we wanted before kicking off the campaign against Bournemouth this weekend, that wasn’t going to stop the club from trying.

‘There is a lot of work going on behind the scenes and we just need to get them over the line. It could happen because the ground work has been done. I have seen the list of players that Tony Pulis wants and I know the people whose job it is to push them over are doing the best that they can. Whether wanting five before Saturday is unrealistic it doesn’t mean that you don’t try.’

With Leicester City reportedly bidding for new skipper Evans earlier in the window, he said the club kept him firmly uptodate with those offers, but they outlined their position which was he’s not for sale and he’s perfectly happy with that arrangement.

‘The club made me aware of it as soon as it happened and they informed me that they weren’t going to sell me.’

Having been made skipper, Evans would in fact find it strange if we were happy for him to go.

‘I have been made club captain this season so unless the club turn around and say they want to sell me nothing has changed from the last two seasons.’
