West Bromwich Albion’s final pre season friendly of the summer against Deportivo La Coruna ended in a two nil loss.

Second half goals from the hosts sealed the game in northern Spain but the main talking point from the match came shortly before the half time break as Jake Livermore – standing in as skipper for Jonny Evans – saw red on the 40 minute mark having been adjudged to have lashed out at an opponent by the referee.

Showing him a second yellow card, he departed the field.

West Brom:

Foster (Myhill HT), Wilson, Dawson (O`Shea HT), Hegazi, Nyom (Roberts 67), Livermore ©, Yacob (Field 62), McClean, Rodriguez (Harper HT), Phillips (Leko 58), Rondon (Robson-Kanu HT).

Subs:

Palmer, Howkins.

Speaking to wba.co.uk following the game, Director of Performance Mark Gillett said that he expected all players to feature in our final week of training as we build up to the Premier League kick off against Bournemouth next weekend.

We return from Spain with no new issues and with good injury progress for Jonny Evans, Nacer Chadli and Chris Brunt, he explained they missed the Deportivo clash simply to not risk aggravating their issues. Brunt and Chadli remained at home but Evans was set to play until he felt a tight hamstring in the build up to the game. James Morrison and Gareth McAuley are also making good progress and are expected back in full training this week.

‘Gareth and James have made good progress and we are confident they will be able to join the group for full training this week. That’s always the main target – to go into the final week with everyone available and that’s where we are. Jonny’s situation on Saturday was similar to Matty Phillips at Bristol. The moment they report a problem, no matter how slight, there is no point taking chances.’
