Northern Ireland centre half Gareth McAuley has said he was pretty happy to celebrate his 36th birthday with a point against Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend, but he knows West Brom had the chances to have taken the win and all three points from the match.

Speaking to wba.co.uk following the gritty and determined performance from head coach Tony Pulis’ boys, McAuley explained that we had to be pleased with a point against a side who haven’t been defeated since the opening day of the campaign, but he knows how close we were to breaking that run with the opportunities we had in the game.

‘It would have been lovely to get all three points against Spurs on Saturday as a nice birthday present. Saying that thought we are happy with our point. Spurs are a very good side and they have only lost once all season.’

Talking about the positives from the game, he went on to say.

‘We showed a lot of belief in the way that we played and I think it was one of the best performances we have had in a while. The conditions were very difficult with the ball holding up in the air and moving around a fair bit. We used that to our advantage in the second-half and we were able to get up behind the ball. We had a few decent chances and we could have won it. The one save from Lloris to deny Jonas was one of the best things I have seen in real life up close.’

Three unbeaten now and Liverpool up next Sunday, and hopefully if we don’t get the win against Jurgen Klopp’s side we at least extend the current run to four.
