Long Disappointed With Late Loss

Shane Long has called for Albion to learn following our late loss to Man City, although he believes the performance in itself shows how far we have come.

Speaking to wba.co.uk Long said.

‘The boss has instilled real confidence in us to play against the best teams and pass the ball – and we showed that. We passed it out from the goalkeeper and with every chance we got we caused them all sorts of problems, and they are probably one of the best teams in Europe, never mind England. It hasn’t happened often, especially at home, and we feel like we played really well so there is a bit of disbelief at coming out and losing that game because we really took the game to them. To lose the game 2-1 is frustrating to say the least, but when we look back we will take a lot of positives and we can probably go on to Newcastle and, if we do the same things, win the game.’

Long also points to the Villa where he believes we should’ve won but we didn’t take our chances and see the game out properly, and he believes that’s something we need to do as we certainly had the chances to re-take the lead against City but we failed to convert them.

If there is a lesson to be learnt it’s probably to try and be a bit more canny when pushing for the winner, and not being afraid to settle for a well earnt point sometimes so we don’t over stretch and leave ourselves vulnerable.
