Journalist: Player undergoing medical ahead of West Brom reunion

|

Attacker Callum Robinson is having a medical at West Brom today ahead of his proposed return to The Hawthorns on a permanent deal, The Daily Telegraph’s John Percy has reported.

Robinson only joined Sheffield United from Preston last summer, before joining the Baggies on loan in the January transfer window, going on to play an important role in helping Slaven Bilic’s side win promotion to the Premier League.

Now it seems as though Robinson is set to make his return to West Brom on a more long-term basis, with Percy’s latest update revealing that the Republic of Ireland is undergoing a medical with the club ahead of a permanent deal.

It is thought that that move will see midfielder Oliver Burke move to Sheffield United, having spent the last season-and-a-half out on loan at Celtic and Alaves, while the Baggies’ search for a striker will not end here, with the club supposedly keen to add another in that position before the end of the window.

Given Burke never really settled at West Brom, it does seem as though this is a deal that works well for all parties.

It is hard to imagine the Baggies would have got anything close the sort of money they spent on Burke had they looked to sell him, so using him as part of a deal to bring Robinson – who was so effective in the second-half of last season – back to the club looks to be a smart piece of business.

Indeed, with a limited budget this summer, a swap deal such as this should also free up some more funds to be used on other potential signings this summer, which could be crucial ahead if the club are to be competitive in the top-flight this season.
