Billy Jones has said he thought he’d put the ball in the back of the net against Southampton, but he knows our performance wasn’t the best.

Speaking to the Official Site after the dust has settled following the game, the right back admitted he thought he had saved a point for us in stoppage time, but Artur Boruc pulled off a fantastic save to keep it out.

‘We were massively strong at home last year and we saw how far that took us. We’re desperate to emulate that again and we know the first half on Saturday was not up to our standards. The second half was an improvement and I feel even though we weren’t up to the standards we’ve set, we were worth a draw.’

As for his potential equaliser, Jones added.

‘I thought I’d scored. I saw it all the way and I knew if I made a good connection and sent it back from where it came from, keepers normally shuffle across their line and find it hard to go off their foot to the opposite corner. But their keeper made a great save and that’s when you know it’s not going to be your day.’
