Roy Hodgson has said he’s not surprised to see Simon Cox finally get on the scoresheet because he can tell from training that he’s a goalscorer at heart.
The player came on for Scharner with 13 minutes to go, and only took 4 to open his Premier League account in some style.
Speaking on wba.co.uk the gaffer said.
I’m really pleased for him because he’s such a nice guy, I’m not surprised he scored because he is a goalscorer. Arguably, he’s probably thinking he was unlucky to lose his place to Morrison when we played Chelsea last week – that was a tactical masterstroke that didn’t come off!’
Cox as you can imagine was delighted to score the equiliser and told wba.co.uk himself.
‘My shot was meant, definitely. I couldn’t see a pass on so I thought go for the far corner and it went in so I was happy. I got a goal and that’s all I was missing.’
Congratulations Simon…the first of many we hope!
