End of six-game winning run shouldn’t be what West Brom fans must be worried about – Opinion

|

Good things can’t last forever, and in the case of West Brom, it was their impressive six-game winning streak in the Championship, which a 1-1 draw against Wigan Athletic ended it dead in its tracks.

Indeed, it was one of the worst performances of the season from West Brom, who missed out on the chance to again leapfrog Leeds United in the Championship table, instead, settling for the same points total as Marcelo Bielsa’s side in the standings and just one goal off the top spot.

Whilst the reaction on social media was rife of West Brom fans seemingly acting like the end of the world because of the horror of the Albion being outplayed by a side that on the day just wanted it more and still coming out with a point, the ending of the winning streak wasn’t the big story to take away from the game.

Will Slaven Bilic guide us back to the Premier League?

Yes

No

With the battle between West Brom and Leeds for the Championship title growing tenser after each matchday, supporters are starting to lose sight on the real goal for this season, that being promotion to the Premier League.

Although it is a bonus to go up to the Premier League as champions of the English second-tier, promotion is the real crowning achievement all sides in the Championship strive for in the division, and with West Brom now a whopping 11 points above the play-off spots, increasing the gap between these positions in the table and the top two is paramount for Slaven Bilic’s side.

The title race should only come into question in the Championship in the final month or two of the season, and what is important now for West Brom is that heading into those finals games that they have promotion all but wrapped up.
