Today’s papers are stating that Zoltan Gera has handed in a transfer request and is looking to leave The Hawthorns.

Wigan and Tottenham have been linked with moves for the midfielder but Albion have so far refused all offers received for the player.

Gera missed the majority of last season through injury but he was influential in the Baggies survival the season before playing a key role in the club’s Great Escape.

With Albion not changing their stance on selling their assets the only way our top players will have any chance of a move is by asking for a transfer.

Paul Robinson has supposedly asked to speak to manager Bryan Robson about his future as his former club Watford have had two offers refused and reports suggest Robinson wants to go back and play top flight football.

There was always going to be interest in Zoltan but I would be extremely disappointed if he asks for a move away from the club. The club have supported him throughout his injury and done everything they can to aid him in his recovery.

Gera did not look the same player when he returned from injury last season but with a pre-season under him he could rediscover his form and be a major asset for us next season.

If Albion do accept a transfer request for any player I hope that we hold out for the best possible offer.

Any offers for Gera should be above the £2 million mark at least, talk of offers for £1.75 million are insulting to Albion and Gera.

Rumour has it that Wigan are interested in a trio of Baggies players including Gera, Nathan Ellington and defender Curtis Davies.
