Weir no to Albion

Albion have been dealt a blow with the news that Everton defender David Weir has decided to continue is stay on Merseyside and turn down the contract offer from the Baggies.

Baggies boss Bryan Robson was hoping to add Weir to the ranks as an experienced defensive partner for Curtis Davies.

Birmingham and Portsmouth were also said to be interested in the former Scottish international but he has decided to continue his stay on Merseyside and signed a one-year contract.

Albion fans are frustrated with the clubs efforts in the transfer market and are starting to feel a little nervous with the rumours flying around concerning the clubs top players seeking moves elsewhere.

Weir was seen as a perfect partner for Davies but Albion will now have to look elsewhere in their bid to strengthen their defence. Stephane Henchoz and Bruno N`Gotty are two experienced defenders currently out of contract and both names have been mentioned in the past with possible moves to The Hawthorns.

With the World Cup group stages over, Albion fans will be hoping that they can sort the futures of Junichi Inamoto and Tomasz Kuszczak in the coming weeks with both players futures at the club uncertain.

Kuszczak has been linked with a move to Manchester United, but the keeper has played down the rumours and said, “There’s been a lot of gossip about Manchester United and other clubs, but to be honest I take no notice of it.

‘I still have a contract with West Brom and that is all people need to know.

‘Sometimes clubs do become interested in players and I, like any other players, would find that flattering but I am contracted to Albion.’

Inamoto will be seeking clarification on his future from Bryan Robson when he returns to the club and will want to know if the manager has him in his plans for next season. The Japanese international wants first-team football and has already said that he does not intend to be sat on the bench in the Championship next season.

Inamoto told Sky Sports, ‘I want to concentrate on the World Cup and not think or worry about West Brom for now.

‘I’m still contracted to the club for another year and as far as I’m aware nothing’s changed.

‘A lot depends on what plans the manager has. But I won’t be deciding anything until after the World Cup.

‘I’ve said before I’d rather be on the bench in The Premiership than not play in The Championship.
