After dominating a first half against a Portsmouth team tired by their midweek UEFA excursion, the Albion surrendered their first half-time lead of the season to a wickedly deflected Peter Crouch shot that gave Pompey a share of the spoils and left the Baggies without a win since October 4th.

Mowbray`s men dominated proceedings for the first 45, and should have been ahead prior to captain Greening`s smart follow up to Brunt`s bullet of a free-kick that came back off the bar with James nowhere (39). However that inability to find the second goal again proved costly, as Portsmouth, no doubt after a half-time rollocking from Tony Adams, came out and played it around a bit, deserving their equaliser courtesy of Peter Crouch, his stinging shot taking a significant deflection off the outstretched leg of Abdoulaye Meite and beyond a helpless Carson in the Baggies goal.

The game finished full of incident, with Carson having a howler on his line (but thankfully getting back to recover after spilling a cross almost into his own net), Glen Johnson somehow missing when clear through from six yards out, and Ishmael Miller getting seriously injured when colliding with David James. Bednar had a chance to seal it at the death but the game ended a fair 1-1.
