With West Brom sitting seven points adrift at the bottom of the Premier League table, Salomon Rondon has declared that he’s not ready to give up the fight against relegation this season and nobody within the camp will be allowed to either.
For some fans this’ll be exactly the kind of fighting talk they want to hear, for others the talking should be done on the pitch and there’s been very little of that so far this season – had their been we wouldn’t find ourselves in the position we now do.
Issuing somewhat of a rallying call as we go into the game this weekend against Watford at Vicarage Road, the Venezuelen international told wba.co.uk that it wasn’t in his make up to give up and he felt the squad were ready to prove a point in what already looks largely an impossible task as we go into March.
‘I understand how the supporters feel. It’s important for us we keep believing in us. We need them because they support us in all the games, it doesn’t matter what situation we have, they support us – they always stick with us. We need everybody. The most important thing is the club and we stay in the Premier League.’
Rondon went on to say.
‘Everybody needs to believe and to know that the only way we can stay in the Premier League – staff, players and supporters – is if we keep working. Saturday is a tough game, a massive game – but it’s even more massive if we take the win and the three points. No obstacle is impossible to overcome – I will believe, always. If mathematically it is possible that we can stay up then I will believe.’
The mathematical possibility will soon run out unless our run of form dramatically changes – well pretty much this weekend in reality and whilst Rondon might have often this year put in the effort of three players his finishing has let him down, and despite a slightly more attacking minded sense under Alan Pardew, he hasn’t increased his own luck in front of the net so credit for standing up and giving what many consider to be a stock ‘say the right thing’ interview, but he’s not alone in needing not to talk but to perform on the pitch.
Make that luck, bury that chance, because those chances have been their recently for a number of players and they’ve fluffed their lines.
Fans can’t change that, players can and fans as always will cheer what they can, it doesn’t need to be asked for.
