Roy Hodgson has blamed the Baggies loss today on cheap goals and has insisted our defending must be better.

Speaking to wba.co.uk following the game Hodgson wasn’t too disappointed with the loss, but he was disappointed by the manner in which we lost.

‘We’ve had plenty of good times so far, now we have to learn how to lose. It’s been a wonderful spell but today we’ve had to come to terms with it again. I don’t think we can have any complaints about the fact we lost because Chelsea were clearly better than us, but we can be unhappy that some of the determination, and desire we showed in the second half was missing for long periods in the first half.’

Speaking with a little bit more depth about the performance, Roy adds.

‘We scored a good goal but then made a couple of mistakes. The first two goals were cheap by our standard.’

However, despite the loss Hodgson believes the way we stepped up our performance in the second half showed we can take positives from the game.

‘We responded well in the second half and I’m sure there is enough character and quality in this team to get us over the finishing line. The good thing is, we’ve also got goals in us.’

These things happen, the unbeaten run may be over now, but there’s nothing stopping us from going on another unbeaten run.
