Report: Surprising West Brom stance shared amid current situation

|

West Brom are confident that they will continue to thrive in the years to come even if they can’t win promotion to the Premier League this season.

Slaven Bilic’s men have been outstanding in the current campaign and they are second in the Championship and they hold a six-point lead over Fulham as they seek an automatic return to the top-flight. However, as we know, the football season has been halted for the past seven weeks and there are serious doubts as to how or when it will return.

Whilst the EFL are committed to finishing the season, it is acknowledged how tough that will be due to the regular testing that will need to take place and there are major concerns about what will happen to the leagues if a player tests positive for the virus.

Will the Championship season be completed?

Yes

No

With all that in mind, The Athletic have today claimed that Albion are ‘calm’ about the prospect of missing out on promotion as they feel the club are in a great position to capitalise in the years to come due to a reasonably sound financial footing and the squad of players they have. Unlike many of their rivals, they wouldn’t have to sell key men and they are in a position to deal with this crisis. It should be said that the report stresses those in power at The Hawthorns understandably want the campaign to finish, however they get how difficult that could be.

This comes after it was announced that the top two divisions in France will not be completed, following the likes of Holland and Belgium who have stated that they will not be playing the 19/20 season to a finish.
