Report: ‘Focused’ West Brom star admits promotion is ‘ours to lose’ after lucky result

|

Romaine Sawyers has admitted that promotion to the Premier League is West Brom’s to lose after a somewhat lucky week in the Championship.

Speaking to The Birmingham Mail, the 28-year-old midfielder revealed that finishing in the top-two is in West Brom’s hands despite the Baggies being held to a 0-0 draw away at the Liberty Stadium, yet with Fulham being held to Bristol City earlier in the day, the Albion find themselves in an excellent position to claim an automatic promotion spot in the Championship following the lucky result.

Six points currently separate West Brom with Fulham in third place, with the two teams set to play each other in mid-April, with the Cottagers facing massive tests before that against the likes of Brentford and Leeds United, and this run-in has seemingly got Sawyers confident about the Baggies chances of promotion as well as where their attention should be focused.

The West Brom midfielder said: “People are looking at everybody around us but we just have to focus on ourselves. It’s ours to lose shall we say. There is a gap there that we have created through our standards. If we do our job it is irrelevant what anybody else does. We have got to keep focused on us and us only.”

The Baggies are approaching the most important part of the season where every point is crucial to the club and could be the difference between promotion and relegation, but for West Brom, they might need an element of luck to get over the line for Premier League promotion.

West Brom have had patches this season where they have been unable to get three points in certain matches, and with nine games to go, Bilic and his squad should be aiming to rake in as much as possible between now and the end of the season, and as Sawyers said, promotion is truly theirs to lose.
