Report: Details emerge of what West Brom must do to secure player signing

|

West Brom will need to win promotion to the Premier League this season if they are to sign Wigan Athletic left-back Antonee Robinson when the transfer window reopens, a report from The Sun (12/07, p61) has claimed.

Having spent last season on loan with Wigan, Robinson made his move to the DW Stadium from Everton permanent back in the summer transfer window, but very nearly left the club back in January, when a reported $13million move to Italian giants AC Milan fell through after his medical uncovered a previously undiagnosed heart condition.

Having once again impressed since returning to action for Paul Cook’s side following the season’s resumption, it now looks as though West Brom will look to take advantage of Milan’s misfortune, although that may be easier said than done.

Would Antonee Robinson be a good signing for West Brom?

Yes

No

According to the latest reports, interest from current Premier League sides Leicester and West Ham, means that the Baggies will have to secure promotion for themselves over the course of the next few weeks, if they are to have a chance of signing the American international.

Indeed, that will only be enhanced by the £10million asking price there is for Robinson, although the report does point out that is Wigan – who are facing a 12-point deduction after entering administration – are relegated to League One this season, then clubs could purchase the defender for just £1.5million.

You can certainly understand why West Brom would need to win promotion to secure the services of Robinson this summer.

The 22-year-old has proven over the past few years that he is more than capable of playing in the Championship, so he will surely now want to test himself properly in the Premier League.

That interest from Leicester and West Ham means West Brom will therefore surely have to win promotion to match the offers he might receive from elsewhere, putting yet more pressure on Slaven Bilic and his side over the next few games.
