Report: Championship clubs interested in signing rarely-seen senior West Brom player

|

Blackburn, Bristol City and Swansea are all interested in signing West Brom goalkeeper Jonathan Bond, a report from Sky Sports Transfer Centre (15/07, 14:45) has claimed.

Bond joined West Brom from Reading back in the summer of 2018, but has been the clubs number two goalkeeper to Sam Johnstone since then, making just seven appearances in all competitions for the Baggies.

The 27-year-old is set to see his contract at The Hawthorns expire at the end of the season, and it seems that has caught the attention of some of the Baggies’ second-tier rivals.

According to the latest reports, Blackburn, Bristol City and Swansea are all keen on a move for Bond when the transfer window reopens later this month.

However, it seems there is no guarantee that Bond’s time with West Brom will come an end anytime soon, with the report going on to suggest that the club could still offer the ‘keeper a new contract, with the likelihood of that happening increased if they win promotion to the Premier League this season.

Should the club offer Jonathan Bond a new contract?

Yes

No

It will be interesting to how things play out here, particularly from Bond’s own perspective.

If he is offered a new contract this summer and West Brom win promotion to the Premier League, then the chance to be a top-flight goalkeeper could tempt to stay at the club.

On the flip-side to that however, Bond could be tempted to move elsewhere this summer in order to give himself the chance to be a first-choice goalkeeper next season.

Indeed, with two of those interested clubs – Blackburn and Swansea – set to see their number one’s leave when their loan deals expire at the end of the current campaign, it seems as though the opportunity for that could arise for Bond this summer, leaving him with a big decision to make.
