Albion are hoping to seal a move for Danny Shittu over the next couple of days from Queens Park Rangers. The Nigerian international defender has a clause in his contract that allows him to speak to any club that offer £3 million for his services.

Albion boss Bryan Robson flies back with the Baggies squad today after their tour of Scotland and he will be hoping that Albion can agree a deal to bring the powerful defender to The Hawthorns.

QPR chairman Gianni Paladini has confirmed that unless Albion offer the money to activate the clause in Shittu`s contract he will be going nowhere, Paladini said, ‘It clearly states in Danny’s contract that if someone comes in with that amount he can speak to them.

‘But if not he will stay as a QPR player.’

The news that Albion are looking to sign Shittu has raised doubts concerning the future of Baggies defender Curtis Davies. The Albion star has been linked with a big money move from The Hawthorns all summer and the latest rumour circulating is that the Baggies have rejected a £9 million offer from Wigan Athletic.

If Albion can seal a move for Shittu it is believed that Davies will be on his way. Arsenal have been strongly linked with the Baggies defender but Arsene Wenger has stated that the price being quoted is to high for the Gunners and they will not be making an offer.

Arsenal look to have been priced out of a move by Premiership rivals Portsmouth and Wigan Athletic, both clubs reported to have made offers in excess of £8.5 million for the former Luton defender.

I personally think that Albion want to add another quality defender to the ranks and that they are serious about promotion this season and will resist all offers for Davies. With the signing of Shittu Albion would have three top quality centre-backs with Davies and Chris Perry, Robson would then possibly look to offload either Thomas Gaardsoe or Neil Clement.

Am I living in dreamland, would Albion spend £3 million on a centre-back who would possibly be on the bench for most of the season, will we revert to 3 centre-backs? Or is Curtis Davies on his way, have your say, what do you all think?
