Opinion: Why West Brom have no need to worry despite concerning update on key figure

|

West Brom have enjoyed a superb season so far and they currently occupy the second automatic promotion spot, with the Premier League firmly in their sights.

Whilst it has been a collective effort from all involved at the club, there’s no doubt that boss Slaven Bilic deserves the most credit for Albion’s success. He inherited a side that had lost their man goalscoring threats in Dwight Gayle and Jay Rodriguez but he has built a stylish team that the fans have enjoyed watching.

Therefore, reports from Turkey suggesting that Fenerbahce are keen on appointing the Croatian as their new boss may have concerned Baggies supporters as it has the potential to set them back.

However, it’s not something that should be worried about. Firstly, for the obvious reason, Albion are on the cusp of promotion the Premier League and that will give Bilic a chance to test himself against some of the best coaches in the world and elite teams – something which Turkey can’t match.

Will West Brom be in the Premier League next season?

Yes

No

What’s equally as important is the power that the boss currently has at The Hawthorns. Not only is he adored by the support but he has a lot of influence when it comes to making big decisions at the club, which was evident by a recent report outlining his role in the signing of Matheus Pereira, whilst he is sure to have been the key factor in getting ex-player Grady Diangana to join West Brom.

Would he get that in Turkey? Ultimately we don’t know but for sure but Fenerbahce are down in 7th in the top-flight, unlikely to get European football and they are searching for their seventh permanent boss in six years.

Swapping all that when a shot at the Premier League is in sight with West Brom and the respect he has in the West Midlands would be ludicrous, so whilst the day may come when Bilic does leave for a bigger project, that’s not going to be any time soon.
