“Let’s not be so silly”: West Brom man issues response to surprising claim from key figure

|

West Brom striker Charlie Austin has laughed off the idea that the remaining games this season could be less than 90 minutes long.

As we know, there has been no football for over eight weeks now for most Championship clubs and Albion are taking a bigger interest than most given that they occupy the second automatic promotion position right now. And, in the past few weeks there has been plenty of speculation as to what will happen, from some calling for the campaign to be declared null and void whilst other reports suggesting the Baggies could go up with Leeds without kicking another ball.

Nevertheless, officially the EFL’s stance is that they want the remaining nine fixtures to be played, although it’s inevitable that they will be played behind closed doors for the foreseeable future. As well as that, a few potential tweaks to the game have been suggested, with one that clubs could be allowed to make five subs as they prepare for a busy period.

Will West Brom be in the Premier League next season?

Yes

No

Yet, PFA chief Gordon Taylor made the remarkable claim yesterday that games could be less than 90 minutes long under ‘Project Restart’. That didn’t go down well with fans and Austin took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the idea.

Let’s not be so silly, soon your be saying let’s play 6 aside.”
