Journalist: West Brom join Premier League clubs in race for 27-y/o international

|

West Brom have become the latest Premier League club to take an interest in signing Sampdoria defender Omar Colley, Italian journalist Gianluigi Longari has claimed.

Since joining Sampdoria from Belgian outfit Genk in the summer of 2018, Colley has made 52 Serie A appearances across the course of the last two seasons for his current club, where it seems he is now attracting plenty of attention from England.

It was previously reported by Tutto Mercato Web that Southampton have made an €18million offer to sign Colley, while Newcastle, Burnley and Celtic have also been credited with an interest in the Gambian international.

According to Longari’s latest update, Colley has now been added to the list of centre backs that the Baggies are considering a move for ahead of their return to the Premier League next month.

Given it does seem as though Slaven Bilic could do to add another centre back to his side ahead of start of the new campaign, Colley’s experience at top-flight level could make him a useful candidate to fill that role.

Indeed, at 27-years-old, Colley still has plenty of time to improve further with experience, although there may be some concern about the financial challenges of this potential deal.

With two years remaining on his contract at Sampdoria, the Italians do have scope to negotiate any offers that come in for Colley, and with Southampton already said to have made that substantial bid for the defender, it seems he would not be cheap for the Baggies.

As a result, with the Baggies needing to strengthen other areas of their squad as well this summer, they will have to be careful not to price themselves out of any other important signings because of one particular pursuit such as this.
