Despite the loss on the final day of the season, Keith Downing has said the Baggies should be proud of their progress this season.

Speaking to wba.co.uk as the curtain closes on 2011/12, Downing said he was pleased with the response of the players against Arsenal, and it epitomises the effort the lads have put in all season long.

‘We finished the game really strongly with a late rally and came up against some very good defending and last ditch tackles. But unfortunately when you’re playing a quality side like Arsenal, you can’t give the goals away that we gave away. We were disappointed with the conceding of the goals, but overall pleased with the performance.’

As for reaching our aim of a top ten finish, he added.

‘To finish in the top half is a fantastic achievement for the club. We’ve had some happy moments, some big scalps and we’re delighted with how the season has gone. Roy’s left a legacy and you saw the appreciation from the supporters.’

Onwards and upwards now in the search for a new boss.
