Steve Clarke has admitted he was disappointed with the defending today against Wigan, but also admitted he felt like it wouldn’t be our day.

Speaking to wba.co.uk following the 3-2 loss, the head coach explained.

‘It wasn’t our day. It was an open, entertaining game but not so entertaining for our fans because we were on the wrong end of the five goals. When you play Wigan you know it’s going to be an open expansive game, we decided to be open as well and have a go.’

Clarke said that he was very pleased with our first half performance and we deservedly took the lead, but then went to sleep in defence and allowed them back into the match. Unfortunately allowing them back in like that gave them a second wind of sorts and really brought them to life.

Throughout the whole game though, Clarke knows we can defend crosses into our box far better than that and we just weren’t at it today.
