Curtis Davies will still become an Aston Villa player at the end of the season despite his ruptured Achilles tendon.
The deal is a sure-fire iffy one, with tax reasons going down as the official reason as to why Aston Villa didn’t fork out a reported £10million when they first picked Davies up in the summer of 2007.
The former Baggies centre back ruptured his Achilles during Villa’s 1-1 draw with Premier League table toppers Arsenal on Saturday, however it now appears that it’s not a case of returning damaged goods, but that the Davies deal is signed sealed but not yet 100% delivered as boss Tony Mowbray explained to BBC WM:
“Curtis becomes an Aston Villa player at the end of his loan and I’m sure an injury isn’t going to curtail the deal.
“Villa see him as a big part of their future and I don’t see any problems.
“Unfortunately injuries are part-and-parcel of football but if anyone has the personality and character to overcome a bad injury, it’s Curtis.
“He’s a very focussed and driven individual and we wish him well.”
Despite letting such an exciting and talented player go, Mowbray is confident that Albion can do enough with what we have to be facing Aston Villa next season.
“Hopefully Albion will be in the same division next season and we’ll be competing against him.”
