Albion have been boosted by the news that former Luton defender Curtis Davies has signed a four-year extension to his current contract keeping him at the club until 2010.

The former Luton defender impressed for the Baggies last season after joining for £3 million on deadline day last August.

The defender has been linked with a move away from The Hawthorns since the club’s relegation to the Championship and the Baggies board have turned down a number of offers including an offer worth £9 million from Wigan Athletic.

I am really pleased that he has signed this deal and followed Paul Robinson’s lead in committing his future to Albion. Davies is the most important player at Albion and the news that he is staying is the best news of this pre-season.

Davies will be handed the club captaincy now he has confirmed that he is staying at The Hawthorns.

Albion were linked with a move for QPR’s Danny Shittu but it is not known if Bryan Robson will follow up his interest now that Davies has signed his contract extension.
