Clarke Remains Happy With Changes

Steve Clarke has again talked about being happy with the changes he made for the Stoke game, even though the result didn’t go our way.

Speaking to wba.co.uk as the focus remains on whether he made too many changes in one go, Clarke has dismissed that saying he remains happy with his choice, their performance and he believes it shows the faith he has in the squad to come in and perform when called upon.

‘The selection process over the course of the three games in a week was to try to freshen the players up, not to ask too many of them to play the three in such a short space of time, especially with the travelling involved. I was pleased with the changes, I thought the boys that came in did well in what was not a pretty game of football. The changes are there to be made, I can’t keep saying I’ve got a good squad then pick the same players every week – then I become a liar – I can’t tell the players I trust them and then not do that, it was a week to use the squad.’

As for beginning preparations for the Arsenal match, Clarke says the squad will enter the match with confidence, despite us losing back to back games – it’s a challenge they will relish, and it’s a challenge they will look to get back to winning ways from.

‘We’ll go there full of confidence even on the back of two defeats – that’s what we are trying to instil in the players. It hasn’t been a good few days but we look to get back on track as soon as possible. We will show the same character. We could lose the next game, but we won’t keep losing because I have too many good players. I have told the players they should be pleased where they are and not to be too down on themselves.’
