Albion boss Bryan Robson has targeted veteran defender David Weir to partner Curtis Davies at the back for the Baggies next season.

Weir is available on a free transfer after his Everton contract expired at the end of last season. Everton have offered the defender a one-year extention but the defender wants a two-year deal.

Albion face competition from Birmingham City in the race to sign the former Scotland international. Latest stories say that both the Baggies and Blues have spoken to Weir and offered him a two-year deal.

Weir has made over 500 first-team appearances for Hearts, Falkirk and Everton, racking up an impressive 257 appearances for the Merseyside club.

Albion boss Robson has been searching for an experienced head to play alongside Davies and after missing out on Ugo Ehiogu last January, Robson has turned his attention to Weir.

I think that Weir would be the ideal man to play alongside Davies, he has the experience and reads the game brilliantly, the only thing missing from his game is the pace, this is why it is important that we keep hold of Davies.
