West Brom’s Star Performer Couldn’t Stop Middlesbrough’s Winner

|

West Bromwich Albion tasted late disappointment on Friday evening as we travelled to the Riverside Stadium to face Middlesbrough and former gaffer Tony Pulis.

A stoppage-time winner from Daniel Ayala was enough to give them the 1-0 victory and end our recent resurgence, but we were poorer once again. Boro dominated but a strong defensive showing on the day almost saw us through to a point so there are some positives to take. We did create numerous chances as well, but we didn’t test their keeper often enough to trouble them.

A big positive was the performance of Ahmed Hegazi who was easily our Man of the Match for his efforts in the back line.

Whoscored gave him a post match rating of 7.43 and defensively he was credited with five tackles, seven clearances and one blocked shot. He even won six aerials in total and his contribution didn’t end there.

One shot, one key pass and a pass accuracy of almost 80% saw him top the ratings, with only Chris Brunt being the other player to join him with a score of seven or above.

We know we can do better though but we now look to The Hawthorns tie for some Pulis delight.
