Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone was on loan with our near rivals Aston Villa last season and by all accounts he had a very successful year out with them as they lost to Fulham at the final Play-Off hurdle.
In fact, with all the stories coming out of Villa Park over the last month they didn’t quite fall at the final hurdle, more crashing into it in spectacular fashion and the ramifications of that are ongoing.
With Johnstone believed to be a nailed on addition to their playing squad this summer, that is now certainly not the case with their financial issues and Johnstone has already been linked with numerous other Premier League and Championship sides in recognition of his development and performances.
West Brom are now the latest side to be linked with his services as we look to move quickly following Watford’s chase of Ben Foster.
Alan Nixon commented on social media about our apparent interest in Johnstone the other day and it certainly peaked the interest of some fans.
Think #wba go for him with Foster potentially leaving, Alan?

Don't mean to worry anyone but we have 6 weeks to buy a new squad #wba

Mostly positive replies, and I’m obviously gutted Foster is off but he’s no spring chicken and after thinking it over I can’t blame him for wanting to play at the top level. I’m obviously not ‘ITK’ but since tweeting have been told Johnstone is coming. Action at last?! #wba

Just need a positive signing to kick things off obviously first team players are missing for one reason or another in Portugal but it's mostly kids out there lol

My lads are both Villa fans. Said he improved a lot in second season. They’ll be gutted if he comes to us.

I’d be fairly happy with it. Made a few mistakes when he first went to Villa but really benefited from the regular games. One that could end up here for 5 or 6 years
