As the summer transfer deadline slammed shut at 5pm, West Bromwich Albion fans were still awaiting a third announcement from the club today concerning our known chase of Sporting Lisbon winger Matheus Pereira.
West Brom Hoping For Three Deadline Day Deals & Southampton Links Are Back
With earlier announcements for Grady Diangana and Charlie Austin the club misled fans, as we saw a fourth arrival in the shape of former Arsenal Academy graduate Chris Willock, who joins us on a loan from Benfica.
The pacy 21-year-old joins West Brom on a deal until January with both clubs having options to review the agreement in the new year with a view to extending it until the end of the campaign. He made his debut for Arsenal in the EFL Cup back as a 16-year-old, but having signed a five year deal with Benfica – he’s yet to make a senior debut for them.
As for Pereira, he comes in for the season on loan with a view to a permanent move next summer. The permanent clause kicks in based on appearances and the 23-year-old has been handed the No 12 shirt.
All in all, a decent deadline day if they can hit the ground running.
