West Brom Now Linked With Experienced Defensive Free Agent

|

With links yesterday suggesting that we were taking Norwich City’s Wes Hoolahan on trial ahead of possibly doing a free agent deal for the services of the 36-year-old, later in the day we were linked with another former Norwich player – Russell Martin.

The 32-year-old was also released by the Carrow Road outfit over the summer and the Birmingham Mail reported that we had also offered him a trial.

The defender is extremely experienced, and also spent the majority of his career at Norwich having made a loan spell permanent in January 2010 and his career tally has seen him make well over 450 appearances in the game.

In the season of 2017/18, he only made seven appearances for Norwich and spent the second half of the year north of the border with Scottish Premiership side Rangers where he made 17 starting appearances, with a return of one goal.

We’re pretty well stocked in my mind at centre-half with Craig Dawson coming back into the fold following the transfer window, but Martin can also play right back so I’d presume the thought is greater competition there following summer shenanigans and the eventual capture of free agent Tyrone Mears.
