West Brom have to remain grounded if they are to maintain astonishing Championship run – Opinion

|

Leapfrogging Leeds United in the Championship table is becoming something of a weekly occurrence for West Brom this season, and it was the same again this weekend but this time in sublime style.

The Baggies thrashed, embarrassed and demolished Swansea City 5-1 in one of the best Championship performances of the season that saw Matheus Pereira score one and assist three as well to make it six games in a row that West Brom have won in the league.

Indeed, West Brom have been a force in the league in recent weeks with Slaven Bilic finally finding his perfect Albion XI that can turn around games in the blind of an eye, and tonight against Wigan, extending their winning run to seven-games will nothing short of brilliant, but the squad need to remain grounded.

Do West Brom have the best squad in the Championship?

Yes

No

We have seen sides in all divisions across the country embark on winning or unbeaten streaks and let the dizzying heights get to their head eventually leading to their downfall in the long-term, such as Arsenal last year who went on a 22-game unbeaten run before losing and never recovering under then-manager Unai Emery as reported by Football London.

For West Brom, though, they can’t allow this euphoria to get to their heads tonight against Wigan Athletic, a side who did manage to get the best of the Baggies last season as the Latics claimed a 1-0 win against the Albion.

A win will be massive for Bilic’s side as it will likely be needed to yet again overtake Leeds in the Championship table, and after Sunday’s electric performance against Swansea City, it doesn’t look like West Brom will be slowing down anytime soon as they will be eyeing to continue their immense form against a Wigan side aiming to escape the relegation zone.
