Portsmouth captain Sol Campbell has urged for focus as his side takes on West Brom in Saturday’s FA Cup Semi-Final.

He also highlighted a certain Kevin Phillips, who he undoubtedly knows from Premier League days gone by as the West brom danger man to snuff out, if Portsmuoth are set for a Wembley final date.

“We’ve got to make sure we’re really on the ball, and also respect who we are playing against,’ said Campbell, 34.

“We’ve got to be careful not to give Phillips too much space.”

Manager Harry Redknapp, who knows of Phillips’ talents from their time at Southampton (before ‘Arry bottled it) is similarly concerned about the former England strikers abilities as well as that of a resurgent West Brom side:

“He’s a proper striker who knows what to do,” said the Portsmouth boss.

“West Brom are a very good side. They are favourites to go back up to the Premier and nearly did it last year.

“If they had been in the top division then I’m sure they wouldn’t have come down. They play good football and score a lot of goals – well into double figures in the Cup run already.”

  • Phillips played for the scummers & that alone means we hate him. If he does anything else to us, he will be slated forever.

  • you say that ‘arry ‘bottled it’ with scum, but could you not argue that it took more ‘bottle’ for him to come back from scum to pompey…
phillips is a danger man, but he doesnt have as much pace as he maybe once did, if we give him a sniff in and around the box he coul punish us.

  • Im a pompey fan & was at wembley yesteray, and I just wanted to say how well ur boys played yesterday. good fans, & even though it took 45 mins for us to get going, u lot can play some good football. I thinks its wrong you slagging of harry like that, not really justified, but I think your fans are a credit to the game.

  • Have to say, I enjoyed meeting the Baggies, top fans….thanks for helping to make it a superb day
