West Brom Announce Released List Ahead Of Life In The Championship

|

West Bromwich Albion have now confirmed their released list ahead of the 2018/19 Championship campaign in the second tier of English football.

With Darren Moore unable to save us from the drop given the pathetic and shoddy displays on show prior to his arrival, the form we ended the campaign in at least renews some hope that under the club legend he can whip us into shape. If promotion straight back to the top-flight is too much to ask, we can at least have hope of having a season with more highs than lows that sets the foundation for future success once more.

As per Premier League rules, member clubs had to get their released list in this week so free agents could be circulated. The list is not yet guaranteed however as contracts could be offered if talks are not already ongoing.

West Brom’s offering to this list are the following players:

Campbell, Tahvon
McAuley, Gareth Gerald
McCourt, Robbie
Morrison, James Clark
Myhill, Glyn Oliver
Pierce, Evan
Ross, Ethan Walker
Yacob, Claudio

McAuley would seem to make more sense from a financial footing for me as despite his age, and you wouldn’t expect him to play many games next season. The sale of Jonny Evans does make me think he would’ve ticked the experienced box and leader in the dressing room as we presumably bring the next batch through though.

James Morrison is also no great surprise, but given the departures you would think we’ll have to sanction, he would have been a good squad option to tide us over. Same as Boaz Myhill.

I also think Claudio Yacob could’ve done a job at this level, but maybe it’s just me.

Having taken some time off to try and enjoy the summer, maybe it’s me again and I’ve missed the coverage but this seems to have flown a little under the radar. If true, whether that implies talks are ongoing and a few aren’t simply out of the door I guess the next few weeks will tell us.
