It was being reported last night that West Bromwich Albion had reached an agreement with Egyptian side Zamalek for Ali Gabr.

Sky Sports were one of many to report that a deal was now done to bring the defender to The Hawthorns and on the information they had, the initial agreement was a loan until the end of the season.

However come the summer we will have an buy clause of £1.5million to make it permanent.

Sky suggest the 29 year old comes in as cover for Jonny Evans with his fate unknown as despite the speculation linking him to Arsenal and Manchester City, no formal bid has been received and head coach Alan Pardew doesn’t want to be left short should an offer be too good to result, even if it arrives late on deadline day.

It does appear Pardew’s January gambling in the window largely depends on whether Evans stays or goes now.
