WBA have to return to winning ways in massive fixture to keep up with league rivals – Opinion

|

After Wednesday’s 1-1 draw against Wigan Athletic, it would be something of an understatement to make that West Brom need to find a route to winning ways quickly.

Two points dropped against the Championship strugglers allowed Leeds United to top the league table for the first time since late September as records from Transfermarkt show, and although West Brom are now 11 points above the play-off spots in the standings, the end of the six-game winning run was bitter, to say the least.

But luckily for the Baggies, they have the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways when Slaven Bilic’s side host Birmingham City in the first Second City Derby of the season, and for West Brom, they simply have to pick up the three points against their city rivals.

Should Jamie Soule get a first team chance?

Yes

No

Indeed, the derby is a fixture that West Brom have somewhat dominated in recent years, with the Albion yet to lose to Birmingham since 2006 as records from 11v11 show as well as the Baggies winning the latest iteration of the game in March this year in a 3-2 win.

With Leeds facing off against Cardiff City at Elland Road in what should be a fairly winnable game for Marcelo Bielsa’s side, three points will likely be a must for West Brom who could also do with increasing their goal difference with the gap between them and their Championship rivals just separated by one.

West Brom blinking first in the race for the Championship title has given Leeds a big boost in their goal to claim silverware on their way to Premier League promotion, but with the Baggies set to do battle with the Birmingham rivals, Bilic’s side have the perfect platform to return to winning ways.
