Watford Turn To West Brom For A Safe Pair Of Hands

|

Over the weekend reports surfaced in the media suggesting that Watford were primed to make a move for West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Ben Foster.

The Sun seemed to kick-start the rumours off late on Saturday evening and by Sunday the speculation had taken on a life of its own as everyone else rehashed the story and provided absolutely nothing of note that was new.

In short, the speculation hinges on West Brom’s relegation from the Premier League last season and the fact that our 35-year-old former England man spent two loan spells out at Vicarage Road earlier in his career, 2005 to 2007.

That seems to be it really in terms of concrete details, but I don’t expect him to be going anywhere this season as he’s often spoken about being settled and happy at the club even if last season was an obvious disappointment.

One element of the story actually shows what a ridiculous rumour this actually is. The Sun go on to say that Watford are trying to shift Costel Pantilimon to Nottingham Forest or Aston Villa to make space for Foster, and I see absolutely no reason why Foster would hang up his gloves on regular first-team action and move to effectively be a No2 stopper as he goes into the twilight of his career.

They also go on to suggest that Manchester United and Manchester City are looking at him as reliable back up as well.

I think this rumour can be instantly trashed in fairness.
