The EFL Trophy continued with a few group games played this week.

Premier League and Championship U23 – or are these U21? – sides were involved once again.

Not that all these ‘age group’ sides involved had players entirely falling into that age bracket with several overage players permitted to feature so the aims of ‘young English talent’ being involved in them not exactly the case…

Here’s a round-up of the EFL Trophy results.

There weren’t too many games played this time round but the ones there were did see a good few goals with the games, obviously points, decided in normal time without the need for penalties.

A five goal thriller at Accrington saw the League Two side edge out Middlesbrough’s U21 side 3-2 with the other U21 side in action also beaten – West Brom’s youngsters were seen off by Midland rivals Walsall at the Bescot Stadium.

The most convincing win of the evening came at Gigg Lane. Hosts Bury were put to the sword by League One rivals Rochdale, who went away from the Shakers with a morale boosting 4-0 victory, along with the points.
