Slaven Bilic is looking for a new signing or two in his West Brom squad it seems, and it looks like he could be set to poach a free agent as well as spend some cash on some players this month. One free agent that could make his way to the club is an exciting ex-Premier League ace too.
The 31-year-old full-back Martin Olsson is currently without a club at the moment and despite the fact that he’s not been with a professional team since leaving Swansea at the end of the 2018/19 season it’s been claimed by the Express and Star that he could sign for West Brom as the table-toppers have taken him on trial.
This is a move that would mean good things for both Olsson and West Brom, and it seems that Alan Hutton, the former Aston Villa full-back, is keen to endorse this move. When speaking to Football Insider the ex-Villa talked up Olsson, and his words should excite the Baggies.
The former Scottish international claimed:
‘I think he’s always been a good player. He’s very athletic, quick, good going forward and he can defend. It seems like he’s been around the block a bit, been at a few clubs he’s done really well. He’s a great professional and has done well through his career so I’m sure he can do a job.’
Hutton also said that Olsson was ‘always a tough professional to come up against’ and that ‘he could do well for Slaven Bilic.’ So it seems that the Baggies could be making a shrewd move by bringing in the Swede, who has amassed almost 200 Premier League appearances in his career.
Olsson isn’t just a player with top-flight experience, though, as well as 197 games in the Premier League he’s also racked up 113 Championship appearances (Transfermarkt), and he could be set to add a few more and a league winners medal to that tally.
